LIONS QUEST
Lions Quest
is an international educational program that has been developed and implemented
by the Lions Club International. It has been designed to equip pre-adolescents,
adolescents, and educators with the skills and knowledge necessary to become
responsible citizens and socially active members of their communities. The
program aims to create life-long learners through a combination of character
education, service-learning experiences and social/emotional/mental-health
skill building. It supports the development of essential core character
qualities, such as respect, responsibility, integrity, and compassion. Examples
of lessons are the importance of understanding individual and social
responsibility, self-discipline and self-respect, as well as the development of
leadership skills through community service. The program emphasizes positive,
practical, solution-based approaches focusing on problem-solving, goal-setting,
communication, and decision-making. Lessons are designed in a way to lend
themselves to individual interpretation, enabling each student to draw their
own conclusions and to build upon previously acquired knowledge. Lions Quest
helps foster students to become productive members of their community, both on
the local and international level. It works to promote activities such as
International Understanding, Community Involvement, Environmental Concern, and
Humanitarianism. Lions Quest is currently being implemented in more than 50
countries, providing millions of students the opportunity to take part in its
enriching character-building activities. The Lions Club International aims to
continue to equip today’s generation with the skills and knowledge to become responsible
and active members of their communities.
Lions Quest
believes that quality preparation is essential for effective youth programs.
Our research-based Lions Quest program provides comprehensive, age-appropriate
training activities for all stakeholders involved in a youth program. Lions
Quest provides a core foundation of knowledge that can be adapted to the local
environment including content related to developing life and social skills.
Through interactive and engaging activities, youth participants learn how to
set and reach goals, develop character traits, manage emotions, and become
active citizens. Lions Quest also provides training and support to adult
volunteers on how to structure, monitor, evaluate, and implement youth
development programs. Lions Quest's philosophy of learning also includes adults
as educational leaders and partners. Additionally, the consistent
implementation of Lions Quest material reinforces best practices and ensures
the highest quality of youth program offerings.
INCREASE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT
Lions Quest programs are designed to help youth achieve academic success. They
provide special activities and resources to help children understand and stay
engaged in their learning. The program encourages critical thinking, problem
solving and cooperation, as these skills are essential for student success in the
classroom. It also provides guidance on decision-making, communication skills
and social skills. Overall, Lions Quest increases academic achievement of youth
by helping them understand the importance of education and providing them with
the tools and strategies to achieve their academic goals. This is achieved
through activities, such as Sciences, Art, Math, English and other subjects
that involve problem solving, collaboration, communication and creative
thinking. The program also provides guidance on time management, organization
and goal setting. Through Lions Quest, children are able to develop the tools
and skills needed to effectively navigate academic challenges and be
successful. As a result of Lions Quest programs, students are more likely to stay
on track and graduate on time.
DECREASE PROBLEM BEHAVIORS
Lions Quest programs provide evidence-based, skills-development strategies to
educators and youth-service professionals. Through Lions Quest programs, youths
learn the skills and attitudes necessary to prevent and mitigate problem
behaviors. Lions Quest helps young people become responsible, caring, and
productive citizens. It fosters social-emotional learning, character
development, and a drug-free lifestyle. Lions Quest also promotes communication
and collaborative problem-solving among youths and adults such as mentors,
teachers, and parents. It encourages volunteerism and service activities, which
can in turn lead to improved academic performance and positive attitudes
towards school. Research studies have shown that Lions Quest positively
influences attitudes toward school, increases self-esteem, and reduces drug,
alcohol, and tobacco use among teens. The program has been implemented with
outstanding results in a variety of schools, youth groups, and other
organizations. By providing youths with the skills and attitudes needed to
navigate difficult life situations and avoid problem behaviors, Lions Quest
helps young people become more successful throughout their academic and
personal lives.
IMPROVE
PROSOCIAL BEHAVIORS
Lions Quest programs aim to prepare the youth for life beyond the educational
environment by teaching and instilling essential life skills such as decision
making, goal setting, communication, empathy, self-awareness, and social
responsibility among others. Incorporated within these life skills is a focus
on building and adopting prosocial behaviors among youth. Examples of such
prosocial behaviors include taking action to help, empathy and understanding,
any social concern that fosters learning, cooperation, communication, and a
commitment to what is best for the community rather than solely what is best
for the individual. Lions Quest programs help foster these prosocial behaviors
by providing a unique and comprehensive educational approach where these life
skills are utilized and explored. Through a mix of activities such as games,
stories, small group discussions, and other experiential learning methods,
youth are provided with the necessary tools, strategies, tips, and skills to
adopt and maintain pro-social behaviors. These skills are transferrable to
other aspects of life, from educational institutions to their primary social
circles, and to their communities. Lions Quest programs emphasize the
importance of prosocial behaviors, which in turn encourage youth to engage in
them more often, both in their current environment and circumstances as well as
in a myriad of different contexts in the future.
Furthermore Lions Quest
plays a valuable role in the development of today’s children as they navigate
their way into adulthood. It seeks to empower and equip young people with
essential skills, attitudes and values needed to live healthy, productive
lives. The program combines proven research with a curriculum designed to teach
key life and social skills such as social awareness, communication and problem-solving.
Additionally, the program encourages and inspires important values such as
respect, empathy and integrity. Lions Quest activities provide a bridge,
connecting what happens in the classroom to real-life scenarios. Through these
activities students explore difficult topics, like risks of alcohol and drug
use, or the value of school work and teamwork, in safe, age-appropriate ways.
Finally, Lions Quest provides opportunities for students to practice these
skills and values in their daily interactions at home and in the community. As
a result, students learn healthy adaptive behaviors and develop important life
skills that help them connect to their peers, become better equipped to handle
adversity, and remain engaged at school and in the community. With these
skills, young people gain an even greater ability to positively contribute to
their future.
